From New York to Chengdu, shooting hoops to hip hop, street style and the proliferation of technology to artistic movements, this celebrated exhibition traces the origins of streetwear and street culture to tell its 40-year story through the lens of its most influential figures.
The multi-sensory experience is explored through a variety of media and métiers to reflect the presence of street culture in everyday life: from the sonic pulse of the underground to the drenching floodlights of sports stadiums; the palpable atmosphere of catwalks to the vocal beats of its artists. Press ‘play’ on a visual playlist of streetwear’s greatest hits, uniting objects with song lyrics and art with notable historic events that have defined the moment – from its inception in various pockets of 1980’s youth culture to its greatest moments of revolt.
